Optoelectronic Science Section

The information society is all around us, reflected in the universal presence of information terminals and ubiquitous receipt, processing, and use of information. Optronics makes it possible to process large quantities of information very quickly through a combination of optics and electronics technologies. Developments in this academic and technological field will be crucial in enabling us to adapt to the new high-speed information society. It is therefore important to vigorously promote a balance between basic research grounded in the physical properties of light and quantum electronics, and applied research on devices and systems for use in information acquisition, transmission (communication), processing, display, and measurement.

In this section, research based on the field of optical quantum electronics is conducted from both basic and applied perspectives. The topics examined include optical communication and light sensing devices, optical waveguides and circuits, ultra-high density optical memory, lasers and LEDs, lase-measurement applications , optical information processing, and nonlinear optics.
