Purpose
The Basic Research Section is positioned to fuel the future development of science and technology related to nanovision science, informatics, the environment, and bioscience; that is, the areas in which the two research institutes specialize. This is an interdisciplinary section that links several different fields. Students start by examining basic rules in the field of materials science, and conduct research aimed at creating functional materials and controlling the characteristics of materials through physical manipulation.
The section promotes mathematical science research that focuses on “the mathematical science of shape” as a basic concept for understanding natural phenomena. Here, students focus on interdisciplinary research that goes beyond the framework of the existing sciences by finding ways to integrate with materials science research, and investigating new mathematical scientific approaches to problems. This research section utilizes a guest lecturer system to cultivate the seeds of learning through flexible integration and close interaction.
